I don’t know which version to get, the razr x irons or the razr x tours. I will not be able to try the clubs before purchasing. i play in the low 80′s but can still manage a 90 now and then. I own mp-32′s, the clubs I started golf with and now using ap 2′s. I love the mizzy and the accuracy of the ap 2′s but I just want the razr x’s, maybe because my only 79 was with the x-22′s. Leaning towards the razr x with a 3 and 4 hybrid because a already own a blade and cavity back but scared the razr x might be to chunky.

X20 irons vs X22

Every two years since 1994, Callaway has released a new line of clubs in their X-series of irons. The two latest models are the X-22 line, released in 2010, and the X-20 line offered in 2008. The clubs for both lines come in game-improvement and Tour models, making them adaptable to any skill level. Determining which set is better suited to your play style is a matter of understanding your needs and budget as a golfer.

The X-20 irons have lofts that are closer in design to their predecessor X-18 clubs, ranging from 21 degrees on the 3-iron to 45 degrees on the pitching wedge. The standard X-20 clubs have a much larger face than the precision head that was developed for the X-20 Tour models and was subsequently passed on to the X-22 generation. The X-20 clubs utilize a straight shaft in the game-improvement models and a tapered shaft in the Tour sets.

The Callaway X-22 have a loft ranging from 21 degrees on the 3-iron to 46 degrees on the pitching wedge. I actually bought a set of x22's. Was playing x16's previously. I think the cavity is gaudy but I never see what that really is such a big issue to some people as long as you can't see it at address. To me setup pretty similar. I didn't directly do a side by side to the x20's but according to cally the x22 are supposed to be thinner top and bottm I thought?

In any case, I think the x22's launch higher and are much easier to hit the 16's. It's been about a year since I hit the 20's so I can't vouch for the difference between the 20's and 22.

X20, So Easy to Hit

The X-Series began in 1997 with the Big Bertha X-12 regular and pro versions and was the company's first attempt at reaching out to the player who needed less forgiveness than the Big Bertha irons. The next generation X-14 irons became the best selling irons in Callaway's history.
  Along with the great looks though, the weight of these clubs is just about right aswell. Not too heavy or too light, which is something that would probably be important for any beginner or higher handicapper trying out a set of irons.
So after admiring how good the irons looked, it was time to find out the most important thing of all, how the clubs performed, and if they did what they were made to.
  As was intended by Callaway, we found that the X-20s were very easy to hit, even the longer irons didn't pose much trouble. Most shots when struck well felt effortless, producing that great feeling that you often get when you strike an iron well.
  I've always liked the shape of Callaway irons and had great success with a set of X18 Pro Series a couple years ago. I wanted a set of irons that were easy to play but not bad to look at so I picked up a set of X20's a couple weeks ago.

First off, the reports that the X20's are Callaways version of the X18 Pro Series are not accurate. The X20's have a much wider sole, more offset and a larger head than the X18 Pro Series had. But, they're a very nice iron if you're looking for a game improvement iron that doesn't look too clunky. I thought the feel was pretty good, sort of muted and soft, not at all harsh. Distance was above average and these irons are very easy to elevate and very, forgiving. There are better options if you want to work the ball but I did find that I could manufacture a draw pretty easily when I wanted. Most of the time I like to hit the ball straight and for that these irons are perfect. I got the stock uniflex shaft and I'm actually pretty impressed with it. Reports are that Callaway is using the "old" Dynamic Gold Lite as their current uniflex shaft. I've played everything in the past from S300 Dynamic Golds to 5.5 and 6.0 Rifles and I found the uniflex shaft to hold up just fine for my swing and I didn't feel like the ball was ballooning at all. Overall I like this iron a lot and I think lot's of us could do worse than to have a set of these in the bag. As the next few weeks go, I'll have a chance to get better aquainted with these irons but so far I'm impressed.

I ordered the Callaway X-20 Irons from Callaway a few weeks ago with Rifle 5.0 shafts, +1" and 2* upright. As always, Callaway's customer service is top-notch and the clubs arrived promptly. After 3 rounds with Callaway X-20 Irons, here are my impressions: These babies are very forgiving. I just upgraded from Ping Eye2 BeCu's, and while I will always love them and refuse to sell them, the 5-7 strokes I've taken off my score are impossible to ignore. Mishits are not severely punished, but you still know when you haven't caught it just right. The trajectory is nice and high, but I haven't had a problem with ballooning at all. The feel of these Callaway X-20 Irons is about the best I've experienced with cast clubs, although still not quite as buttery soft as the BeCu's when you hit it dead square. One more thing, the Callaway X-20 Irons are probably a good 2 irons longer than my Eye2's, granted the lofts are quite a bit stronger, however I have played similarly lofted clubs in the past and these just seem longer. I'm still working on calibrating my yardages. Overall, I give these Callaway X-20 Irons an A+. They are long, forgiving, feel great, and aren't too massive like other game-improvement irons.

I've owned the X18s and X20s. The Callaway X-20 Irons are larger with a wider sole. Forgiving with a muted feel. As with all Callaway GI irons, there is noticeable offset. A mid to high handicapper will have confidence standing over the ball with this club. These Callaway X-20 Irons will also fit a weekend player than doesn't get to practice a lot. For me, it was a bit bulky so I traded them. Overall, the Callaway X-20 Irons are easy to hit and perform.

Got these irons about 3 months ago and love them. I used to love playing blades but soon realised I was loosing out. Distance is not as good as some but feel and accuracy are great. Pretty good forgiveness for a better players club but you can still tell when you've miss hit it. Project X 6.0 flighted shaft is good as it keeps the ball down a bit in the shorts irons but helps get the ball up a bit in the long irons. Good for a low ball player (like me). If you're looking for a set of irons that are the next step up from game improvement irons but don't want to go to full players clubs, give these a try, they are worth it.

Performance was excellent, with sweet and responsive feedback and solid distance results. I really like these Callaway X-Forged Irons after finally deciding to switch to forged I think i made the right choice. If you are going to make the switch from cavity back to forged I would like to let you know that it is a lot different when you play then when you hit balls on the range although the feel is unbelievable on the range it takes time to get the feel on the course. I would recommend this Callaway X-Forged Irons to a low handicapper。

Sporting a classic look without the extravagant graphics that can be seen on other Callaway Irons such as the Big Bertha Diablo’s. The Callaway X-Forged Irons are serious looking clubs made for high ability, serious golfers.

At address they really do set up very well, and feel good in your hands, despite what are slightly smallish Callaway X-Forged Irons heads. Admittedly they are a touch heavier than a lot of other irons, but this is something that most players will just take a few swings to get used to.

Just got my new Callaway X-Forged Irons this weekend. Had a chance to work with them at the range. I tried a couple different shaft options; the fitter shafted a couple different heads for me to give a go. I decided on X100 shafts, and I am glad that I did. These shafts have great feel, and lots of power. I was shocked how easy I could swing and get the distance and control I wanted. This set up has a really nice soft feel at impact, but the shafts are really stiff.

I tried the project X 6.5 and 7.0 shafts, and it is just a really different feel. It felt like I was swinging baseball bats, but after a couple large buckets of balls I was getting the feel. In the end the X100's were the best option for me. The flighted technology:
At first I was concerned that I may have gotten the wrong shafts because my 6 iron was flying higher than I thought it would. But then I got my four irons, and my concern was gone. Really nice low penetrating shots.

I am surprised Golf Digest only gave this club a silver rating. The comment that Six handicaper Justin Timberlake, struggled with this club is odd. I am a 10, and I see these clubs really helping my game. A club like the X-Forged that has great feel, and lots of power will really help me with my tempo. It is not a hard club to hit, but it will bite you if you get fast or lazy with your swing.

RAZR X Tour Review

For over a decade, Callaway's signature line of irons, the X Series, has made the company one of the dominant forces in category. From the X-12 to the X-24 Hot, they blended forgiveness and power in game-improvement models, while better-player models incorporated more shot-shaping feel.
You can now say goodbye to the X Series and hello to three models of new RAZR irons. Yes, there's an X on the back of the club, but these irons are built on a different foundation than their predecessors.
The RAZR X is a game-improvement iron that has a huge hitting area. Replacing the X-22 and X-24 Hot in Callaway's line, each of the eight irons in the standard RAZR X set are made using a new variable face thickness technology, which makes the hitting area thinner as you move away from the center. This feature broadens the sweet spot and maintains ball speed on off-center hits.
The sole design allows the irons to feel just as advertised. They play like they are made for low-mid handicappers but are forgiving on mishits. On one shot today I hit towards the toe about a ¾" but the ball went straight, just lost a bit of distance. Otherwise they were easy to use. I don't have distances down yet but they seem long. I like the balance with regular TT R300 shafts. The trajectory is what you would expect from these shafts. The ball gets up nicely with no ballooning. With the new 2011 groove specs they seem to spin the ball well. So far I cannot tell much difference. I hit a lot of shots with the AW which is 50* more like a PW. Anyway, the TM AW I had with graphite spun the ball very well. I'll have to see how this one is on the course. On the range I could get them to stick, seems to spin OK.

Today I played 18 holes with these Callaway RAZR X Tour Irons and they performed perfectly and with ease. I like the less offset look and Callaway RAZR X Tour Irons set up nicely. My normal ball flight is straight and these went right at the flag. On the 18th hole I hit a 7 Callaway RAZR X Tour Irons to the green with a big headwind and put it a few feet from the pin. I hit a few close with the AW and overall am very satisfied with these irons. I plan on keeping these in the bag for now.

RAZR X Irons Review

The most important clubs in your bag are not your irons, but if you don’t utilize them correctly you will never get to use the most important club in your bag, the putter. If your iron play is less than good, then your putter will come in handy for sinking double bogey and triple bogey putts. However, if your iron play is good, then you will create more birdies and pars opportunities and will lead to a more consistent game. Sometimes all it takes is the right equipment’s and one of the better choices out there is the Callaway Razr X Irons.
The all-stainless steel iron repositions 30 grams to the lower portion of the cavity, to create a large sweet spot in line with where average golfers strike the ball (low on the face). Consistent, high ball speeds combine with stronger lofts (long irons strengthened by 2°, short irons by 1°) to produce shots that fly 5 yards longer on average than X-22s.
Built on Callaway's popular X Series line, the R Callaway RAZR X Irons is designed to provide consistent distance and accuracy through the set. RAZR technology shifts the center of gravity lower and deeper in the Callaway RAZR X Irons head, offering increased shot making from more places. The irons are also available in RAZR X Tour and RAZR X Forged models.
The secret to Razr technology is its weight distribution. Callaway shifted the center of gravity 12 percent lower and 15 percent deeper by redistributing 30 grams of weight in the back cavity. The company then tailored a refined VFT face and high-definition undercut cavity to each individual iron. The result is more consistent ball speeds across the club face, increasing distance and accuracy even on miss-hits. In head-to-head tests, Callaway RAZR X Irons were 56 percent more accurate than traditional irons that chase distance at the cost of accuracy. Tighter shots. Shorter putts. Lower scores. Look For X24 Irons For Distance And Forgiveness

Yes Callaway X-24 HOT Irons are very hot. Once again Callaway takes VFT (Variable Face Thickness) Technology to new levels. These are as long as my Wilson Di9's and they aren't as strongly lofted. The Pitching Wedge on these is now a rather common 45* (which used to be the 9 Iron of old) vs the exceptionally stron 42.5* of my Wilson Staff Powerful Whallop...er uh...Pitching Wedge. 45* is now considered common in the industry, and when a company manages to get them as evenly blanced as these are, the stronger loft is really no big deal. These are long and smooth, without a dash of harshness. I did find, however that the Uniflex Steel felt more even throughout the set.

Callaway's latest Callaway X-24 HOT Irons features a new PVD dark finish that minimizes glare. More weight in the perimeter of the Callaway X-24 HOT Irons head helps provide better accuracy. The variable face-thickness design creates a larger sweet spot and helps produce longer shots, even on strikes that miss the middle of the club.
